One of the most common questions I get is: “What should I wear to my photo session?”
It’s a great question—and honestly, the answer is simpler than you might think. The most important thing? Wear something that makes you feel like YOU.
I photograph people in every season of life—from growing families to eloping couples to small business owners building their brand. No matter what kind of session we’re doing, the goal is always the same: to tell your story honestly, beautifully, and comfortably. And the right outfit plays a huge role in that.
A Few Quick Tips Before You Choose Your Outfit:
- Confidence over everything: If it feels good, it will look good.
- Avoid loud logos & busy patterns: They can distract from your face and emotion.
- Keep jewelry and makeup simple: Let your natural features shine.
- Think about movement: Choose fabrics you can sit, walk, hug, and laugh in.
- Coordinate, don’t match: For couples or families, stick to complementary tones—not identical outfits.
Three Easy Outfit Ideas That Always Work:
1. Classic Black + White
You can never go wrong with this combo. Whether it’s a crisp white button-up, a flowy black dress, or a fitted top and jeans, black and white is flattering for every body type and always photographs beautifully. It’s clean, timeless, and lets your personality do the talking.
Perfect for: Couples, branding sessions, studio or downtown shoots.
2. Fun & Flirty Florals
If your session is in the spring or summer—or you want to lean into something a little more romantic—a floral dress or top is a great option. Just keep the pattern soft and not too overwhelming. It brings texture and color to your images without stealing the spotlight.
Perfect for: Family sessions, engagement photos, outdoor garden shoots.
3. Soft Neutrals
Beige, tan, sand, cream, white, dusty pink, soft sage… all of these tones create a cohesive and dreamy feel. Neutrals photograph well in every location—parks, downtown, fields, even at home—and they don’t compete with the emotion in the photo.
Perfect for: Any session! Especially lifestyle and in-home shoots.
