When you're planning a branding session, it can be hard to know exactly what to bring. You're excited to finally update your website and social media with fresh, professional images—but you also want to make sure everything feels intentional and true to your story.

Whether you're a small business owner, creative entrepreneur, or service provider, this post will help you feel confident and prepared before your session.

Here’s what I recommend bringing along to make the most of your branding photoshoot.

1. Outfits That Reflect Your Brand

Think about the message you want your visuals to send. Are you warm and welcoming? Clean and minimal? Bold and confident?

Bringing 2 to 4 outfits gives us flexibility and variety. A few outfit ideas to consider:

  • What you’d wear to meet a client or hop on a Zoom call
  • Something casual for behind-the-scenes shots or content creation
  • A polished look for headshots, speaking engagements, or LinkedIn
  • Anything in your brand colors or that feels like you

Pack your shoes, accessories, and any layering pieces like jackets or cardigans. Don’t forget a lint roller, steamer, or safety pins just in case.

2. Props That Tell Your Story

Props help bring your work and personality to life. The goal isn’t to overdo it—it’s to use a few meaningful pieces that help your audience connect with you and understand what you do.

Some go-to prop ideas:

  • Laptop, phone, or tablet
  • Planner, notebook, or favorite pen
  • Business cards or packaging materials
  • Coffee mug or water bottle
  • Tools of your trade (camera, paints, books, product samples)

If you work with clients in a tangible way, think about what you'd have on hand during a real workday or session.

3. Simple Styling for Your Space

If we’re photographing in your office, studio, or home, small details can make a big difference. A clean, styled environment makes your photos feel professional without being stiff.

Styling suggestions:

  • Tidy workspace or desk
  • Neutral or branded decor
  • Plants or fresh flowers
  • Wall art, framed prints, or signs with your logo
  • Product shelves or displays

It doesn’t need to be perfect—just a little intentional.

4. Branded Items and Marketing Materials

This is your time to show off the physical elements of your brand. Anything with your logo or color palette can help reinforce your identity and give you visuals you’ll use again and again.

Consider bringing:

  • Business cards
  • Packaging (boxes, tissue, tags, or stickers)
  • Welcome kits or client gifts
  • Branded merchandise (notebooks, mugs, totes)

These shots are especially useful for websites, welcome emails, and social posts.

5. Personal Touches

The best branding photos are the ones that feel real. Don’t be afraid to add a little fun, a little personality, and a little bit of the “why” behind your business.

Ideas:

  • Your favorite book or journal
  • Something that represents a hobby or downtime
  • A cozy blanket, a go-to pair of glasses, or a fun accessory
  • Even your pet (if our location allows!)

Your audience wants to connect with you—not just your product or service.

Final Thoughts

The goal of a branding session is to create images that feel like you. Don’t stress about being perfect. If you bring a few well-chosen items and show up as your true self, your photos will do the rest.

When you book a branding session with me, I’ll walk you through each step—from choosing your outfits to deciding which props best tell your story. You’ll also receive a custom prep guide so you feel ready, relaxed, and confident.
