Let’s face it—getting your photo taken can feel awkward. Where do you put your hands? Is this angle good? Do I look stiff? Trust me, I get it.

That’s why, as your photographer, I’m here to make sure you feel amazing in front of the camera—and that starts with posing in a way that feels natural and brings out your true personality.

Whether you’re booking a branding session, engagement photos, or just want to celebrate the season you’re in, here are my top 5 posing tips for women in 2025 to help you look and feel like your best self.

1. Move With It

Instead of freezing in one spot, we embrace movement. Think: walking, twirling, fixing your hair, swaying your hips. A little motion brings so much life and authenticity to your photos.

Not sure what to do with your hands? Play with your jacket, run your fingers through your hair, or lightly touch your necklace.

These small movements make all the difference and help you forget you’re even being photographed.

2. The Classic S-Curve

It’s a gentle shift of weight that creates beautiful shape and flow. Stand with one leg slightly bent, shift to one hip, and let your arms rest softly—no overthinking.

Confidence looks good on you, and this pose helps highlight that natural beauty.

It’s subtle, flattering, and works no matter your outfit or the location.

3. Chin Forward and Down (Trust Me)

This one might feel a little strange when I ask you to do it, but trust me—it photographs so well. Pushing your chin slightly forward and then down defines your jawline and avoids unflattering shadows.

Just a small adjustment that instantly elevates your photos—no need to stress about angles.

4. Keep Hands Soft and Natural

Hands often give away how tense we feel. If your hands are stiff, it can throw off the whole shot. I’ll gently guide you to soften your fingers or give you something to do—like adjust your sleeve, hold your skirt, or brush your hair back.

Your hands tell part of your story too—let’s make them feel just as effortless as the rest of you.

5. Confidence Is the Real Pose

2025 is all about letting go of perfection and embracing what makes you you. Laugh loud, close your eyes, lean into the wind, break the “posing rules.” That’s where the magic happens.

If you feel good, you’ll look good. Let me do the rest.

At Colleen Mohr Photography, my goal is simple: to capture you, exactly as you are—beautiful, real, and full of life. Whether we’re shooting in the golden light at Mill Creek Park or dancing through a downtown alley, I’ll guide you every step of the way.
